After a day of play with my two cats, I realised that my companions deserved spaces as considerately designed as the home within which they lived. I wanted to make sensitively designed sculptural works that would not only be fun for cats to use, but furniture that was well-constructed and wouldn’t look out of place in a sleek Skandi warehouse, or mid-century modern estate.
Enter Catcitecture: Furniture for cats designed by architects.
Drawing inspiration from some of the most influential designers of the modern age for materiality and construction; their approach to design for the human form but scaled down to that of a feline.
Currently a finalist from over 200 entries in the 2019 Big Idea Challenge for new businesses, the process has moved from sketches to 1:10 scale plywood experiments, utilising steam bending over moulds. Part of the process includes social media marketing to raise awareness of a pitch video created for a Public Vote, and further research from a pet owner's Questionnaire.
