Enzo Mari was an Italian designer, writer, and philosopher who in 1974 produced a booklet of furniture named Autoprogettazione, or 'self-design', aimed at the novice self-builder.

After moving to a new flat during Lockdown, I took the opportunity to make a 1123xQ chair, adapting Mari's original design to suit the locally available timber, and refining the process along the way to make a second version.
