Conversion of a private courtyard into a public wildlife garden.
Surveying the enticing private courtyard identified it's underuse as a carpark and bike store, whilst examining the wider context revealed the lack of 'uncontrolled' green spaces to provide habitats for wildlife.
Inspiration was taken from the area's history of timber storage for the design of a raised walkway over the Wildlife Garden, enabling visitors to access the existing raised platform over the Thames. Research was undertaken into the soil infrastructure needed to encourage a healthy garden in what was previously a tarmac surface, whilst ensuring adaquate drainage was maintained.
